As a Holistic Health Coach and recipe developer in her own right, Model Meals customer Emily Ryu knows a thing or two about nourishing her body with real, whole food. Learning through her own health struggles the importance of cleaner eating and living, Emily found Model Meals on Instagram and a love affair was born! She's sharing with us how Model Meals has enabled her to have more time, energy, and space for the things that feed her soul and spirit, while she lets us nourish her body. Hi Emily. We are so thrilled to be sharing your experience. Tell us a little about your background and what got you interested in holistic health.
My name is Emily Ryu and I am a certified Holistic Health Coach, Recipe Developer (@Ryupure), and PR/Social Media Manager. My goal is to help people live healthier and happier lives through inspiring and educating others on living more holistically. My journey began three years ago when I was on a combination of pharmaceutical drugs adding and subtracting different chemical substances every time I left the hospital because I was constantly getting sick from a plethora of unhealthy lifestyle choices. I hit a very low point in my life where I realized that something had to change. I got more into nutrition and meditation and discovered just how connected everything is. Changing my lifestyle has transformed my life and I’ve never been happier, and spreading any semblance of that with others brings me more joy than anything. The world needs more plants and we’ll only eat more of them if they taste good and I am determined to make that happen.

What is your philosophy when it comes to health and nutrition? How does that align with what we do at Model Meals?
I have two - the first is Michael Pollan’s mantra, “If you’re craving something indulgent, make it yourself” or in this case let Model Meals make it for you. I also use the 80/20 principle to maintain balance. 80% of the time, eat the food you know is best for you, exercise often, and try to live with intention. The other 20% of the time, do whatever you feel like doing. For example with food, let’s say you have 21 meals in a week. A little over four of those meals would equal 20%, so, for those four meals, you can allow yourself to have whatever you want. You can use Model Meals to fulfill your 80% and you won’t even feel like indulging in that 20% because it is healthy AND delicious!
What advice would you give someone who is looking into finding a meal delivery service that is right for them?
Stick to one that is based on a whole-food, plant-rich diet that includes fresh, nutrient-dense, and delicious ingredients. I love the Marinated Kale Salad with Almond "Feta" (shown here).
As a health coach, how do you think that someone can incorporate MM into their nutrition routine?

What surprised you the most about Model Meals?
What stood out to me the most is not only the quality of each meal, but how colorful my plate always looks. It is so important to eat the rainbow because the more colors you eat, the wider the array of nutrients in which you are fueling your body. General rule of thumb - try and get at least 3-5 different colors of plant on your plate!

What has been your favorite meal since incorporating MM into your diet and self-care routine?
My always mood is the Almond Crusted Pasture-raised Chicken Strips with Broccoli Mash. How do I petition to make it a permanent meal on the menu? I also recently discovered the Broccoli soup and now I don’t want to live my life without it, ever.

We find that our customers save a lot of time using our service. What have you been able to do with the time you’ve saved from not having to go to the store and grocery shop, meal prep, or cook? Have you found this to be valuable to you?
It has allowed me to practice being fully present, which decreased my anxiety. I also have more time to focus on my work, and spend quality time with my friends and family. I am much more pleasant to be around because my mind isn’t wandering to the endless tasks that needs to get done in order to create healthy meals!
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience with MM that others may find helpful?
