She was kind enough to share her experience with our community about what made this Whole30 different, how she suggests someone be successful on Whole30, and what her favorite Model Meals were in January. Jeanie! Thanks so much for taking the time to share with us about your January Whole30. Tell us, was this your first Whole30?
Thank YOU for this amazing opportunity! This was actually my second Whole30. I completed my very first one back in July 2018!
What made this round different from other rounds?
My fiance decided not to join me for this second round. I thought for sure I wouldn’t be able to do it without him, but I surprised myself! I actually felt much more confident in my decision making about what I could or couldn’t eat and was much more creative in the kitchen this time around.
What was your biggest challenge during January Whole30?
I definitely had a lot more social obligations than during my first Whole30. I knew I had to find a way to incorporate these resets into my everyday life, so instead of hiding from the world, I found ways to make it work. My friends and family were very understanding and flexible with me - we would choose places that had healthier options and they didn’t give me a hard time when I would have to ask the server 23409828 questions! I’m not ashamed to admit that I brought a bottle of Primal Kitchen ranch dressing and coconut aminos packets with me whenever I went out to eat!
What did you feel was your biggest victory?
Being able to complete a round of Whole30 without my fiance was a huge accomplishment for me - I never thought I could do it on my own. I also found that I no longer needed coffee to stay alert all day. The real food I’ve been eating has been enough to give me the energy to power through the day!
What advice would you give to help others be successful during Whole30?
- Don’t start Whole30 on a whim. Take the time to prepare yourself mentally. I gave myself a month to prepare for my first Whole30. During this month, I read the entire Whole30 book to familiarize myself with the rules. The book helped me understand WHY I had to do this for myself and after reading it, I felt so ready and motivated to start.
- If you have the means, leverage a meal delivery service like Model Meals for a few meals a week because it was immensely helpful for someone like me who is at work all day. It was worth every penny for us - we still saved money from not going out to eat.
- Research and gather ALL the Whole30 recipes. I found so many amazing recipes online on IG and through Whole30 endorsed cookbooks I found on Amazon. I was so excited to start cooking once I realized that Whole30 meals can be even more delicious than going out to eat.
- Have a support system! I had a few friends who decided to do a January Whole30 and we have been texting each other every single day and rooting each other on. It’s been awesome having someone I can share my NSV’s (non-scale victories) and rough days with.
Those are some fantastic tips. Support and accountability are key. Did you notice anything that changed during January Whole30?
I felt less bloated, my pants that were a little snug started to feel loose on me, and I could see that my face was slimming down! I started to feel more confident in my day to day, too! I stepped on the scale on Day 31 and was the lightest I’ve ever been!
That's amazing. How do you feel now that you’re done with this round?
I feel so incredibly proud of myself for completing a second round. I’m honestly a little nervous of where to go from here but I love Whole30 and I’m going to do a slow roll and just carefully and intentionally choose when I want to eat a non-Whole30 meal without feeling guilty. I’m a foodie at heart and proud of it, so I want to be able to incorporate that into my life without having it define me. I have no doubt I’ll be doing a third round in the near future!
What meal was your favorite over the month?
I know you only asked for one, but I can’t pick just one. My favorite Model Meals were the beef chimichurri meatballs with sweet potato mash (I remember literally scraping the bowl clean) and shrimp pad thai (I’m a sucker for Asian food!).

Oh my gosh, I don’t even know how to put this into words. Model Meals was an integral part of my success in both Whole30’s that I’ve completed. While I enjoy cooking, it’s exhausting to cook for every single meal, 7 days a week. With a 40+ hour per week office job and an upcoming wedding that I’m not done planning for, Model Meals gave me precious time back!
Any parting advice or words of wisdom for other Whole30’ers?
Treat your body the way you would want your loved ones to treat theirs. This was my mantra throughout the 30 days and it helped me stay strong. Trust me, 30 days is nothing in the grand scheme of things. It’s crazy how fast it flies by and the feeling of accomplishment is priceless.
